Every year, a $3,200 scholarship will be awarded to a Guerin Catholic High School rising Senior who exudes the qualities of “becoming the best version of yourself.” After his first semester at Guerin Catholic, Evan chose to elevate his academic path to include all Honors classes instead of his current academic load. Little did we know at the time that Evan’s “all in” lifestyle, faith, family, friends, school, service, and sports, would lead to an early death and a diagnosis of CTE, a degenerative brain disease. It was almost like he knew he needed to use every moment to make the most of his God-given life.
2021 Recipient: Elodie Krawczyk
Her first three years of high school were peppered with significant obstacles. Physically, she endured a hip replacement, back injury, and a number of concussions yet continued to compete as a competitive figure skater. She immigrated to Indiana from a foreign country. Despite these setbacks, she is pursuing an IB diploma. Her spiritual strength is evident in a quote from her essay, “I have had a variety of challenges to be defeated by but with the grace of God I was able to rise above them.”
Two Guerin staff members submitted the following thoughts.
“I think Elodie is Shakespeare’s ‘Though she be but little, she is fierce.’ “
“Knowing that she cannot be her best if she succumbs to ...complaining, she has tackled every personal difficulty with grace and fortitude.”
